Today (22 April 2010), Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, together with Mr. Ormsin Chivapruck, President of Thailand Post Company Limited, launched THAI’s 50th Anniversary Commemorative Stamp. The commemorative postage stamps will be released for sale to the general public starting on 1 May 2010.

Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President said THAI is celebrating its 50th year of establishment on 1 May 2010.  For this occasion, THAI and Thailand Post together will issue special postage stamps to commemorate THAI’s 50th Anniversary. The stamps will be available in four different designs, each representing THAI at different stages of its prominence, growth, and history.

Stamp design 1 portrays THAI’s Douglas DC-6B aircraft that was royally bestowed the Srisoonthon.  This was the first aircraft to enter THAI’s fleet on 1 May 1960.  The “Dancing Man” logo was painted on the aircraft livery as a symbolic figure of Thai classical dance.

Stamp design 2 portrays THAI’s Douglas DC 10-30, painted in THAI corporate colors of purple, pink and gold. This aircraft type was used on flights routed to Europe and Australia from 1975-1988.

Stamp design 3 portrays THAI’s Boeing 747-400 aircraft that was royally bestowed the name Hariphunchai with a Suphanahong Royal Barge painted on the aircraft livery.  This aircraft was painted in 1999 to celebrate His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 72nd Birthday.  The aircraft livery was an expression of Thai people’s allegiance towards their beloved king.

Stamp design 4 portrays THAI’s Airbus 340-600 aircraft that was royally bestowed the name Watthana Nakhorn. This aircraft was used on THAI’s medium to long distance routes.  This modernized aircraft livery design appropriately represented the Company’s maturity and growth through contemporary corporate image.

All four postage stamps were chosen to represent THAI’s record of dynamic growth and achievement over the past 50 years.  Beginning with three aircraft, each with a 60-seat capacity, THAI has grown to now 90 aircraft operating to 67 destinations on international and domestic routes across 4 continents.

Mr.Ormsin Chivapruck, President of Thailand Post Company Limited, said that on the occasion of THAI’s 50th Anniversary, both organizations invite stamp collectors and the general public to share this special moment with THAI.

These commemorative stamps, reflecting successful operations throughout various periods, are laid with a colorful Thai silk background, which has come to symbolize THAI’s journey that is Smooth as Silk.  These four postage stamps were produced by a special technique using spot UV.
