The Countdown Continues
| Thai Airways International (THAI) is pleased to report that initial stages of airframe and component manufacture are progressing on schedule for the first of six Airbus A380-800 jetliners which will enter service with Thailand's national carrier on major intercontinental routes from the third quarter of 2012. Three of these superb aircraft are scheduled for delivery to THAI during 2012, with three more to follow during 2013. Departments throughout THAI are already planning for exciting new innovations and enhanced service features in support of the A380 launch, all designed to create the most rewarding travel experience for passengers, in all classes. |
What is special about the A380-800?
| The A380 is the largest passenger aircraft ever built. It is also among the most environmentally and technologically advanced civil airliners flying today, with major innovations in construction, fuel-efficiency, avionics and flight control systems. Some 25 percent of the aircraft is built using light weight materials, including carbon fibre reinforced resin and GLARE, a fibre-aluminium laminate, used for the first time in a civil airliner. Relative to the next largest aircraft, the Boeing 747-400, the A380-800 offers 50 percent more cabin area on its two full-length upper and lower decks, larger windows and overhead bins, with 60 cm. (2 ft.) more headroom. It was designed for the stringent noise and pollution controls demanded by major world airports. It carries up to 35 percent more passengers, yet creates significantly less noise and CO2 emissions than its rivals. The A380's fuel efficiency, advanced engineering and technology results in up to 13 percent lower seat-mile costs than other aircraft types. With a full load it consumes less than three litres of fuel per passenger over 100 kilometres, comparable to an average family car. In service, the A380 has proved extremely popular with passengers, due to its sense of space and enhanced levels of comfort, in all classes.|
| Major airports worldwide are facing serious congestion problems. Passenger demand continues to grow, while the number of flights airports can handle is already reaching available capacity. One partial solution lies in the use of larger aircraft, such as the A380, which offers additional environmental benefits in terms of reduced levels of noise and air pollution effecting built-up areas around airports. Larger aircraft can help to ease airport congestion and provide greater passenger capacity and economy in operation, especially over intercontinental routes.|
What is so special about THAI's A380-800?
| Throughout its 50 year history, THAI has created an enviable reputation for the quality of its celebrated Royal Orchid Service as one of Asia's most admired airlines. The six A380s joining the fleet will continue this tradition, but add new dimensions in customer appeal.|
The standard cabin layout offered by the Airbus A380 manufacturers allows between 525 and 853 passengers. In THAI's configuration, the number of seats is set to 507, in three classes: 12 in Royal First Class, 60 in Royal Silk (Executive) Class, and 435 in Economy. This design has been chosen to allow for enhanced comfort and service features in all classes, and endorses THAI's policy of providing the best possible flying experience "With touches of Thai".This "Customer Value Strategy" will ensure that all aspects of THAI's inflight presentation, at every customer touch point, will maintain the airline's competitive advantage as one of the world's premier carriers.
The décor and ambiance onboard THAI's A380s will continue to reflect the airline's long-established image, combining rich vibrant colours with traditional design elements seen, for example, on bulkhead murals. The overall atmosphere will be chic and sophisticated, with variable cabin 'mood' lighting simulating different times of day. There will be 24 cabin attendants on each flight to maintain THAI's highest standards of inflight service. This is supported, particularly, by the provision of seven galleys and food service stations, more than is offered on this aircraft by any other airline.
THAI's A380 Royal First Class
| This "Top Tier" prestige class provides just 12 compartment-style seats, offering greater privacy in a separate cabin, combined with the highest degree of personal service. Seats have an 83˝ pitch, 26.5˝ width and 180˚ fully-flat bed configuration. The 23˝ AVOD interactive touch screen entertainment and information system offers almost unlimited channels, plus there is full connectivity for Wi-Fi, mobile and SMS communications devices, with an in-seat PC power outlet. Other exclusive facilities include two larger than standard toilets, one of which features a spacious dressing area. An enlarged galley, equipped with such exclusive equipment which will provide the flexibility to serve meals timed to suite individual passenger's preference.|
THAI's A380 Royal Silk Class
| With a "Best in Class" strategy, designed to provide the maximum in comfort and service for these premium passengers, THAI will build on its reputation for excellence. The separate Royal Silk Class cabin contains 60 shell seats in a staggered layout for greater privacy and direct aisle access. Seats provide a 74˝ pitch, 20˝ width and 180˚ fully flat recline. The 15˝ personal AVOD interactive touch screen, Wi-Fi, SMS and mobile communications access, plus in-seat PC power point add to passenger convenience. |
THAI's A380 Economy Class
| The 435 seats in THAI's Economy Class will occupy the whole of the lower deck and rear section of the upper deck, which is entered by a dramatic curving double staircase.Seats offer a generous 32˝ pitch, with 18˝ width. The 10.6˝ AVOD seatback touch screen provides an interactive system with virtually unlimited access for movies, information, music and gaming channels. Economy Class seats also have communications device connectivity and PC power point.|
